We go through every horse’s past races — how they’ve been running, the ground they like, their best distance, how tough the contests were, and whether the trainer or today’s jockey is on a roll — and we turn that into our own odds for each race, under the actual race conditions.

Only then do we take a peek at the market — and we keep looking throughout the meeting.

You know the market always picks a favourite, sometimes joint-favourites, but there’s always an opinion to consider.

A lot of the time we agree with the market, and if we agree then it becomes our Steady pick; it’s our best guess at the winner and it’s the market’s opinion too: it’s the grown-up choice.

Sometimes, the race looks more open to us than the market odds suggest, so we’ll still show you the market favourite – but it won’t get our Steady badge to show that we’re in agreement.

Now the Juicy badge is our fun choice: a longer shot that we think will be in the running — it’s never a 100/1 prayer, but it is the horse the market may have missed. It’s always an each-way choice, meaning that you can still be a winner even if the horse doesn’t win the race!
